MY HIGH SCHOOL CAREER

ROEDEAN SCHOOL (SA)  2017 - 2021

This page covers all of my achievements, activities and some of the proudest moments of my high school career. Of course, this page cannot fully encompass my high school career and the massive amount of value I gained from it, but it's better than nothing. Hope you enjoy!

ACADEMICS

Academics have always been my strong suit. With a combination of hard work, passion, interest in the topics and some luck in the form of talent, I managed to achieve academic results that I am very proud of:

  • I managed to achieve Academic Honours by the beginning of grade 11, meaning that I achieved an average of above 80% every term from grade 8 to grade 11.

  • I have achieved distinctions in all of my subjects from grade 10 to grade 12.

  • In Matric I achieved 7 distinctions in English Home Language, Mathematics, Life Orientation, Afrikaans First Additional Language, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences and Information Technology. Click here for a full transcript of my results.

MUSIC

Music has always been a passion and an outlet of mine. It has allowed me to explore my artistic side, learn and grow, and meet people I never would have otherwise. I've played solo and in groups and really enjoy both. Music truly means much more to me than any accolade, but anyway, here's what I managed to achieve:

  • Piano: I've been playing for about 8 years and managed to achieve a Grade 7 Trinity College of London Pass

  • Drums: I started playing in 2020 and was offered a place in our high school rock band only months later! I was in the rock band as a drummer for about a year.

  • Marimbas: I've been playing in my schools' bands for about six years and was the Head of my high school's marimba band for two years.

LEADERSHIP

Having been in various leadership positions during high school and having had the chance to lead without a title in numerous ways, I have really nurtured and developed my leadership abilities significantly throughout my high school career. Here are some of the leadership positions I was in:

  • Deputy Head Student, President of the Student Representative Council and Head of Round Square Spirit of Democracy (2021) (definitely one of my most challenging but rewarding roles)

  • Head of Marimba Band (2020 & 2021)

  • Deputy Form Captain of my tutor class (2020)

  • SRC Representative (2019)

  • Form Captain of my tutor class (2018)

SERVICE

Community service was definitely one of the most fun and fulfilling parts of my high school career. I was blessed to attend a school with a plethora of programs and opportunities to help out in the community as well as the school and absolutely loved it! Here are some examples of the things I did:

  • Monday House Projects: Assisting students in grades 2 to 4 in maths and literacy from Yeoville Community School (2017, 2018, 2020, 2021)

  • May Movement: Part of a group of grade 11 students who ran various initiatives to help out at the beginning of the lockdown (2020) - my initiative involved a collection of single-use and reusable masks to be donated to neighbouring schools

  • Interact: I was a member of my school's Interact group which participated in various community service activities and collections throughout each year as well as some really fun games each week! (2017 - 2020)
